Chianis + Anderson Architects’ relationship with the law firm Coughlin & Gerhart, began in 2007 with the renovation of three and a half floors of Binghamton’s historic Press Building to create their professional office space. The refurbished space served the firm until sustaining water damage from a fire in an adjacent building in December 2010.

In 2012, Chianis + Anderson Architects was selected to perform a test fit and subsequent design for their new headquarters in an existing building in Binghamton, New York. The approximate 24,000sf of space includes offices and work spaces for 84 attorneys and 84 support staff. Special care has been given to the acoustics to allow for client confidentiality. Challenges of the project included construction in an occupied building and achieving a cohesive design while balancing higher end finishes for the client spaces and more pragmatic finishes for the employee work spaces.
